Change the name of your macOS user account and home folder

Each step, in the order they are set out, must be followed exactly as mentioned

No skipping this step or omitting that step

I have seen some users who have skipped or omitted a step and then had to Start Over from Scratch

Changing the username incorrectly (and sometimes even doing so correctly...) can lead to the user not being able to log in.

So, first thing you should do is: create a SECOND admin account. This should always exist, but more so when there is a risky procedure like this one. In case things go wrong, you can log in to this second admin account to to save the day.

Maybe rethink this ... Changing the username is possible but missing any single step of many can result in loss of access to files/data etc. Many posts in Apple Discussions from users who tried this and ran into trouble.

Hide the actual name? From whom? If someone is looking over your shoulder, I guess renaming it might prevent them seeing your name but is this a real concern? What is the worst that can happen if you leave the name as it is?

Not dismissing your question but asking simply if this really makes sense. Maybe follow the physician's oath, "first do no harm"?
