As TheLittles indicated, the storage on any iPhone cannot be upgraded-- we are all stuck with what we bought with the phone. Paying Money doesn't change that. Any data that you're actually using has to be on the phone.

You can use iCloud to hold some of your stuff that you're not currently using, though. For pictures, you can turn on Optimize at Settings>[name]>iCloud>Photos:

That keeps big picture files at iCloud. Of course, you might have to pay for the storage if you need more than the 5GB that Apple provides for free.

TheLittles provided a couple of links on clearing up unused stuff from our storage space.

If you let us know more about what you actually need, we might have some ideas. But not much is free, I'm afraid…

I only know of one way to do that, and it is not a perfect fix. You can either install an SD/TF card in the devices SIM card slot right next to the SIM card, or you can plug in an external USB storage device or hub with a usb storage device in the same usb slot you usually would put your charging cord in. Since you cannot charge your device if the storage device is not in a usb hub with its own power source, make sure your device is fully charged first. Then use a file manager app to move as much media off your device’s internal storage manually as you can, and move it onto your other external storage or SD card.

As I mentioned it is not a perfect fix, if your apps and their data are taking up too much internal storage, you will need to offload them in your device settings: On my iPad I navigate to Settings, System, and then storage. Apps generally cannot be moved out of your internal storage except by offloading them to iCloud.
