iPhone Maps shows "A route can't be shown" server error

Yesterday my iPhone 13 Pro started showing a message in Maps. "A route can't be shown because of a problem connecting to the server". This would go away after I start driving for awhile. It will also go away if I open Maps at home get the error message, close Maps and reopen it. My wife is also getting the same message with her iPhone 16 Pro.

By chance do you have a VPN installed on either iPhone? If yes, they cause connectivity issues and aren't needed unless required by a school or employer. If you have one, remove it in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, remove any app, then restart your phones and see if the problem persists.
