Is a hard shell case safe for MacBook Pro M1?

Hi, I would like to ask if it is safe to use a hard shell case on a MacBook Pro M1. I’ve heard from some people that using a case might damage the hinge or put pressure on the screen over time. Is this true, and does Apple recommend using cases for MacBook models?
