Track stolen iPad by serial number after wipe?

I Had my iPad stolen. I was selling my iPad on Facebook and the person came to my house and i was suspicious as he didn’t look like his profile at all, anyways he showed me a fake banking app and said the money will take up to 2 hours. I reported it to the police and nothing can I track it with the serial number or something. It has been wiped so isn’t connected to my account

Apple doesn’t lock, find, track or assist in any way regarding selling or lost or stolen devices. Apple has provided methods for the user to accomplish that on their own.

And as has been pointed out several times in this thread only a cellular carrier can block the cellular aspect of an Apple mobile device with cellular option.

Best advice. Next time you sell something to a stranger demand hard cash up front, not half now and half later, no cash app, no checks, just the full agreed upon price in CASH before you had it over. If the buyer doesn't want to do that then find another buyer who will.

And whatever you do don't dare try to blame Apple for your failure like many do.

No. If the iPad was a (Wi-Fi + Cellular) model, I suppose that you could ask your carrier to blacklist the IMEI, to "brick" cellular access to the Internet. But the iPad would still be as fully functional as a (Wi-Fi-only) model.

If the iPad was a (Wi-Fi) model, it will not have an IMEI number at all.

This is the best advice and is worth repeating. It does not matter what you are selling ... or what platform you are using. Cash is king.

It sounds like you sold this on Facebook Marketplace. Report the purchaser to Facebook. And rate them. Let other potential sellers know what this person has done to you.
