I have an iPhone 15 currently at 85% battery life , it has been 2.5 years since I have bought it . It overheats a Loy even for small work like WhatsApp too, feels hot even to hold . should I buy a new one or replace the battery?

You should visit an Authorised Apple Service Provider and let them diagnose your iPhone battery.
Apple will not replace the battery unless the battery health has dropped beneath 80% or the battery is damaged.
