iOS 26.4.2 Causing phone to overheat? Or is that conveniently, since May 9 is when my coverage ended, it’s overheating? The only thing different are those two things. My phone is a 16.

Overheating only occurs when you see the thermometer on the screen with the message your device needs to cool down first to continue. Is that what you are seeing? If not, your phone is working within its operating range just like it was designed to do?
When did you update to iOS 26.4.2? You should be experiencing extra heat while the files are indexing in the background for about 4 days.
Or are you seeing the message when charging that it charging is on hold to cool down before continuing. That is normal when using Fast Charging as that does generate heat and the cool down to continue with slow charging is necessary to prevent battery damage.
