New MacBook Pro password not accepted after setup

I am going crazy. I have a brand new MacBook Pro, I have set up my touch on it and, of course my password but not much else. It said I need to enter my password, which I did, having written it down. It will not accept it. I have no recovery key yet.

I have tried variations of the password, thinking I recorded it incorrectly but all that got me was shut out.
