Hi,
Here are a few suggestions to try first:
The microphone stopping randomly in Microsoft Teams on macOS is commonly caused by permission conflicts, outdated software, or a residual virtual audio driver(MSTeamsAudioDevice.driver) that interferes with system audio.
- Check Permissions and Devices: Ensure Microsoft Teams has microphone access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Inside Teams, go to Settings > Devices and manually select your preferred microphone, as automatic selection may fail during calls.
- Remove Conflicting Audio Drivers: If you previously installed Teams, a virtual driver may remain in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/. Open Terminal and move this driver to the desktop using sudo mv /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/MSTeamsAudioDevice.driver ~/Desktop/, then restart your Mac to clear the conflict.
- Update and Cache: Ensure both macOS and Teams are updated to the latest versions. ( there was a Teams update rolled out today!) If issues persist, clear the Teams cache by deleting the folder at ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teamsand restarting the app.
- Check for Interference: Disable iPhone Camera Continuity in your iPhone settings if it is accidentally hijacking the audio input, and ensure no browser tabs (like Safari) are holding exclusive control over the microphone.
“This issue happens all days and i found that when the microphone is working and i receive a phone call in my iphone, that brokes the macbook microphone (it mute it).”
However, I suspect it’s related to the Apple’s Continuity Camera feature which automatically attempts to switch audio and video input from your MacBook Pro to your iPhone when a Teams call is initiated on the phone.
To resolve this, you must disable Continuity Camera (often labeled as Camera Continuity or iPhone Camera) in your iPhone's settings.
- Navigate to Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff on your iPhone.
- Disable the toggle for Continuity Camera (or Allow Handoffs).
- Alternatively, when the call connects, manually change the audio input in the Teams app back to the MacBook Pro microphone.
This change prevents the iPhone from "wrenching away" the microphone access, allowing the MacBook Pro to function correctly during Teams calls
