Unable to download apps in the App Store

Open Settings ➢ General ➢ Software Update.

If you get the message; "iOS is up to date", then your iPhone has reached the end-of-life support for Software Updates to the latest iOS operating system, depriving you of new features created many years ago.

Many modern apps are not compatible, limiting the usability of your device.

You are invited to visit an Apple retail store to discuss your iPhone upgrade options.

Since your iPhone is too old for a trade-in, the only option is to recycle it for free. ♻️

Because the current version of those applications require an OS version higher than those compatible with your unit. Try downloading them to a newer one on the same Apple Account first.

Niel provided the reason for not being able to do this. You may find that some apps also have a web site interface and you can instead use a browser to get access to some of those features.
