MacBook Pro 2017 display: flickering, black lines, ghosting

Dear Apple Customer Relations Team,

I am writing to formally request Apple’s assistance and escalation regarding a serious display defect on my MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports.

My MacBook Pro has developed recurring display problems during normal use, including screen flickering, black lines, double images / ghosting, and unstable display output. These symptoms have appeared without any accidental damage, liquid damage, impact, or improper use.

After checking public user reports and Apple Community discussions, I found that similar display problems have been reported by many users of the same MacBook Pro generation. The reported symptoms are highly consistent: flickering screen, horizontal or black lines, ghosting, image retention, backlight issues, and display failure. This suggests that the problem may not be an isolated case, but could be related to a wider display assembly reliability issue.

Apple has also previously launched a 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program for certain 13-inch MacBook Pro models sold between October 2016 and February 2018. Although the current service program may no longer be active, the existence of this program shows that Apple has acknowledged display-related reliability problems in this product generation.

My device is the MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports, which belongs to the same design generation and uses a similar display assembly structure. Therefore, I do not believe this issue should be treated simply as ordinary wear and tear or a standard out-of-warranty repair.

I formally request Apple to conduct a full technical review of my MacBook Pro’s display assembly, including:

  1. The display panel supplier;
  2. The production batch of the display panel and display module;
  3. The display cable and backlight structure;
  4. The complete display assembly design;
  5. Whether the affected components belong to any known problematic supplier batch or known reliability issue.

Before dismissing this case as an out-of-warranty repair, Apple should confirm whether my device is affected by any manufacturing defect, batch-related quality issue, component reliability problem, or wider display assembly defect in this MacBook Pro generation.

I respectfully but firmly request Apple to:

  1. Inspect my device and confirm the root cause of the display failure;
  2. Provide a written technical explanation of Apple’s findings;
  3. Confirm whether the display panel, display cable, backlight assembly, or complete display module may be related to a known defect or problematic batch;
  4. Offer a free repair, goodwill repair, or replacement of the affected display assembly;
  5. Escalate this case to a senior Apple support, engineering, or customer relations team if frontline support is unable to provide a fair solution.

I chose Apple because of its reputation for premium product quality, reliability, and customer support. A MacBook Pro is a high-end professional device, and such a display failure should not occur under normal use, especially when similar issues have been widely reported by other users of the same generation.

Please review this case carefully and provide a formal written response with Apple’s position and proposed resolution. I hope Apple will handle this matter responsibly and provide a fair solution.
