Error: I want to open certain audio files Quicktime by default.

When I try and set my default audio application in the 'open with...' to quick time player for audio previews, I get a message "Apple could not verity <insert random filename> is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy." This is obviously not the case as I open these files with the same application manually every time. Then it doesn't let me open the file at all after that point. The UX is broken on this. As a music producer, I don't want to preview audio clips with such a heavy application like apple music by default. Please advise.
