Please explain what you need to accomplish by pairing the two. The reason for asking is that we do not pair iPhones and Macs in any traditional sense. In lieu of such "pairing" we use Continuity features, which use both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in conjunction with all other Continuity system requirements.

Macs and iPhones can also work together using

  • iCloud-based synchronization of photos, messages, contacts, calendar entries, files, etc.
  • connections to shared e-mail accounts (which can have associated contacts and calendar entries)
  • manual synchronization of items in a Mac's Music, TV, etc. libraries to an iPhone using the Finder (which you might want to do if you had, say, music that you had purchased on CDs)
  • manual imports of photos from an iPhone to a Mac (if not using iCloud Photos)
  • (optional) subscriptions to services like Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Arcade (subscribe once, and gain access to content on all of your devices)
