I have lost the ability to block contacts on iPhone 15 Pro Max iOS 26. The button is still there but doesn’t block. I also cannot add to the blocked contacts list manually.

Try this: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Contacts - make sure make changes is marked Allow.
Other users had reported issues with blocking contacts but my understanding is that the issue is fixed in iOS 26.5. So please update your iPhone to iOS 26.5 if you haven't yet done so.
I upgraded to 26.5 yesterday. I checked and the contacts were set to allow changes.
it also won’t let me add any contacts to the blocked list manually.
I have 6499 blocked contacts (thanks to political texts)!!!
