Recently when I try to make a facetime call ie after selecting the facetime icon and have selected the person I want to call when i hit the camera icon it transfers to Meta !!! and connects via Whatsapp - which I don't want to do.
I presume a cookie somewhere but can anyone tell me how to delete it without losing all my whatsapp history?

A bug was introduced within OS 26.4.x that principally affected FaceTime calling from the Contacts App. This bug has the secondary effect of triggering WhatsApp if this App had been installed on the iPad. There are several posts within the ASC FaceTime Support Community that report this issue.
The bug has been fixed in iOS/iPadOS/macOS 26.5 - released on Monday 11th May. If you have not yet updated to the most recent version, you should do so.
All to date that have reported update to iPadOS 26.5 confirm that this issue has been resolved.

I have updated to OS 26.6.1 but problem persists on my iPad. The default calling app is set to Calls from iPhone while the default calling app is set to Cellular on my iPhone. Outgoing FaceTime calls work on the iPhone but outgoing calls on the iPad attempt to redirect to WhatsApp. I can switch the FaceTime call to the iPad once connected on the iPhone.
I am most grateful for all assistance with the problem I have reported.
I did update the iPhones software version to 26.5 as suggested however
on my particular iPhone 13mini, it still transfers calls made with the Facetime app icon to
complete the call via Whatsapp which is very frustrating.
When trying to make a FaceTime call I am switched to WhatsApp. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max on iOS 27.0.1
I am having the exact same problem on iPhone 16 promax
Are they trying to force us to upgrade? I’m done . Fix it Apple
