M1 MacBook Air Trackpad Click Feedback Missing, But Trackpad Works Normally

i got an issue with my macbook m1 air , i have updated to tahoe 26.5 and used it as usual and kept it in sleep overnight , then woke up and started using again , and i realized i cant feel the "CLICK"...i can use trackpad normally like everyday, i can even press the trackpad and drag items , everythings fine , but i cannot feel the sound , the feel of "CLICK".i dont know why.

the following things are what i have tried.

  1. Toggled “Force Click and haptic feedback” OFF/ON
  2. Enabled and tested “Tap to click”
  3. Normal restart
  4. force shutdown
  5. Checked Activity Monitor for post-update indexing/load(the load was heavy on cpu so i cooled it down leaving the macbook idle in a cool room)
  6. Safe Mode boot test
  7. Deleted trackpad preference plist files
  8. Restarted after preference reset
  9. Ran Apple Diagnostics (all tests passed)

Nothing works ,and its so irritating...anything that are left to try? leave a comment tagging me

On MacBook Air models, the “click” is a haptic vibration generated by the Taptic Engine , not a physical switch

Go >> System Settings >> Trackpad >> Point & Click

“Click” from Light >> Medium >> Firm

Toggle “Silent clicking” ON/OFF if present

Toggle “Force Click and haptic feedback” again

Then fully reboot

Next would be >> Shut the Mac down completely

Unplug charger/accessories

Leave it OFF for 30–60 minutes

Press and hold power button for ~10 seconds once while off

Start normally

Because Apple Silicon Macs does not have traditional SMC reset, a full power discharge is the closest equivalent.

To test in a Dummy account  >> Create a temporary new user

Next >> System Settings >> Users & Groups >>Add User

Log into that account and test the trackpad.

If haptics works there, it is probably a corrupted user-level setting/cache

If so >> Reinstall macOS over the top of its' self

Shut down ( do not attempt without totally shutting down )

Hold power button until “Loading startup options”

Open Options

Reinstall macOS Tahoe

This does NOT erase files/apps if done correctly.

If the Taptic Engine firmware/service got corrupted during the update, reinstalling often fixes it.
