Unable to download IOS 26.5 on iPhone 15 Pro

My iPhone 15 Pro won’t allow me to download the new IOS 26.5 update. I have been trying since the day it came out and have my phone set to automatic update and download. I have tried taking it off that and the prompt to download now does not come up. I bought more storage in case that could be an issue but no change. I have tried restarting the phone, having it next to the modem, etc to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 26

You can't buy more storage for an iPhone. You can buy more iCloud Storage, but that will never add more space to your iPhone. Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage - how much space is available? You need at least 12GB (possibly a bit more) available space.

Your options are:

  1. Delete things (photos, videos, apps, messages, files, music, email) from your phone until you have enough space.
  2. Update the phone using your computer with either Finder on a Mac or Apple Devices on Windows --> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Also, it's best to use Wifi, with the phone plugged in to charge and it needs to be above 50% charge to update.

Thank you for your reply. I have 95.16GB of storage available on the phone. I don’t have a computer, just an iPad and have successfully downloaded the update on that and my watch. I am using Wi-Fi, phone plugged in with above 70% charge each time I try. Any other tips? I’ll appreciate any suggestions.

OK. You certainly have enough space on the phone. When you try to update, do you get any error message and if yes, what does it say? Do you by chance have a VPN installed on your phone?

Thank you for sharing your concerns, jjremley. 😉

Try the following steps:

NOTE: According to Apple: After a software update is installed for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS and visionOS, it cannot be downgraded to the previous version.

Thank you both for your replies and suggestions. I really appreciate them. I ended up calling Apple and having them gain access to my screen and they helped me solve the issue. As you have probably guessed from my problem I’m not tech savvy and should have just made the call the first day I had trouble.

Again I thank you both for answering me!

I'm glad you got it resolved. If you don't mind, please let everyone know what Apple had you do to resolve this as it would help someone else who may have the same issue.
