Connecting turntable to HomePod

Any suggestions on how to connect a turntable / AV receiver to HomePod? there are options such as using an Apple TV 2nd Gen or a Mac using QuickTime and a USB audio adapter but it would seem like there should be a more set and forget option in the Apple ecosystem. In the case of the Apple TV method it seems like there should be a way to do it without having a TV nearby.
