Siri distance calculations between two points that are not my location
Why can't Siri calculate distances between two points in which neither points are my location?
iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 26

I guess it depends on what you are asking. For me when I ask Siri the distance between Los Angeles and New York City, I am told how many miles it is by car when neither of the cities are my location. It does use data from Maps for road miles and not direct point to point:
Los Angeles to New York City is 2794 miles by car.
To see what is in store for changes in Siri this year, there is a WWDC conference on June 8th, where there may be additional details provided since Apple announced the use of Gemini AI models to provide enhancements to Apple's own Foundation AI models. We won't know for sure until that iOS version is released.

Thanks! When I ask for distance from NY to LA, it works, but not for Seattle to Mt. Rainier. I guess because Mt. Rainier is not a proper town/city name. It did identify a town in Maryland by that name, and gave the distance (via Maps).
