Hope all is well I have reset my password for my iCloud. Is that different from the password I have for my MacBook because I’ve been locked out for three hours and I just reset my iCloud password.

Your Apple Account has it’s own password. (There‘s not really an iCloud password)
Your Mac startup/login username (as Macs can have multiple users) has it’s own password which is separate and from the Apple Account password.

Yes, they are two separate entities.
Your Apple Account uses the same password as iCloud for all secure connections between your devices.
Your device passcodes simply unlocks your devices (i.e. Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc.).

As it sounds like you’re possibly new to “AppleSpeak” … which can be confusing to newcomers …
FYI - Macs use Passwords while iPads and iPhones use Passcodes to startup and unlock.
All devices — once started and unlocked — then access your Apple Account using that additional password
