Content on the iPhone 17 Pro Max twitches when scrolling.

Why does scrolling through content and text cause jumps and twitches on the 17 Pro Max?

Can this be fixed somehow?

It is very irritating and has a negative impact on your vision.

Thank you for the confirmation. I understand that you’re running iOS 26.5 and the issue regarding the twitching is happening across all applications. This bug is a known ProMotion (120Hz) frame pacing issue caused by optimization attempts that has been widely reported throughout the iOS 26 cycle and was not addressed in iOS 26.5.

Potential solutions to try, in order:

  • Turn off Low Power Mode:

Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode (this throttles performance and directly impacts ProMotion behavior)

  • Enable Reduce Motion:

Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion (reduces animation complexity, which can eliminate the visible jitter)

  • Disable Limit Frame Rate:

Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Limit Frame Rate (make sure this is off; as enabling it will cap the display at 60Hz)

  • Hard restart your device:

Press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, then hold the Side Button until the Apple logo appears (this is different than restarting via control center)

  • Remove heavy widgets from your Home Screen:

Widget-heavy pages have been specifically reported to trigger stuttering during swipes and cause a noticeable decrease in performance across the operating system

If none of these help, this is most likely a software issue with how iOS 26.x handles ProMotion scaling across third-party applications. You can report it directly to Apple at https://feedbackassistant.apple.com. The more reports Apple receives, the higher priority it’ll be to get fixed.

This sounds like a hardware issue. iPhone 17 Pro Max is still under warranty. You need to have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics.

Hey,

Your frustration is understood, and I can absolutely do my best to help. Please respond with your iOS version as shown in Settings > General > About.

Knowing the exact software version helps pinpoint your issue to any known issues.

Could you please reply with:

  • The exact iOS Version listed there?
  • Whether this jumping happens in all apps or just a specific one?
