I did exactly those steps, Mac Jim ID. After I entered to code i was asked to log in…the masil field was the the email for my Apple ID amd could not be changed. I entered my Apple ID password and it was rejected.
OK, what it’s for: About 15 years ago I had an iPod Touch which I kept docked to my stereo system and I bought the TuneIn Radio Pro app to stream radio stations. The Pro version doesn’t have ads like the regular version. About a decade ago, I got my first iPhone and using the same Apple ID as for the iPod, I was able to download the app to the phone. I also was able to go to the TuneIn Radio website using a browser on my Mac and enter my user name and password there as well. Then about five years ago I bought an Onkyo stereo receiver with wif-fi and support for TuneIn Radio has been working fine. Two years ago, I got a new iPhone and could NOT get TuneIn Pro…it showed up in the app store but I would get an error telling me that I already had TuneIn (not the Pro version) installed so I could not even purchase the Pro version if I wanted.
One thing that had changed with the new iPhone was I had set up a different Apple ID since buying the first iPhone and if I try to login to that account with my Mac I get a message that that account was closed years ago.
I got in touch with TuneIn support about this…since I could stream without ads with my stereo system and with a web browser but not my new phone it was annoying. After months of back and forth they told me that since I bought the app years ago using a different Apple ID account that is no longer active, they provided me a code to use to get the app downloaded on my phone for free. When I tried to do that today, I got stuck when the popup asking for my password rejected it.
The popup was not clear about what password it wanted, I assuming it was my Apple ID. Could it have been asking about some other password?
