You should not install anything that runs constantly on your computer. The recommended MalwareBytes is a good tool when using the free scan, but even with that software I would never recommend getting the additional subscription service where it is installed on your computer to run constantly.

Malware requires you to install it yourself and provide the computers login password to do that. It cannot be done accidentally, but you may think you are installing something else based on the claims made. The most common Malware are the browser hijackers that redirect web searches to a different site and the purpose is to gain advertising dollars. This is immediately noticeable and that is when you would need to use the one time scan from MalwareBytes to remove it. You are not likely to fall for the same trick to get you to install the Malware again.

Ever done a scan with Malwarebytes for Mac? If not, then you might want to consider doing so. Remove it, once complete. See my reply.

Once upon a time, when Malwarebytes software was being developed by a forum member (I think it originally had a different name), I recommended it. But that was before it pivoted to something that was supposed to stay resident and running. Now, except for rare circumstances, I don't see a need.
