My passport for Mac not showing files

I bought a my passport Ultra 4TB for Mac. I am running Sequoia 15.7.7. I can see the drive in finder. I have backed up my computer and I have over 3TB left. I cannot see the files on the drive. I have called WD 3 times and they keep having me erase the drive and start over. This has not worked. Technical support at WD keeps having me do the same thing with no results.

I once had a external drive that was marketed as for Mac and that was formatted as NTFS, I kid you not.

Try this

Press Command + Spacebar and type Disk Utility, then open it.

Click View in the upper-left corner and select Show All Devices.

Look at the sidebar hierarchy: select the indented volume name (not just the main hardware container) and check if it says Mount. If so, click Mount.

Run First Aid on that volume to clear any minor directory flags blocking file visualization.

If any/all of these 47,000 pictures are critical to you, you may want to reconsider your approach on where you want to save them. I would suggest that you consider getting a NAS for this.

Regardless, and FWIW, I have a number of WD Passport drives. Although the largest ones I have are 2 TB, I've never had any issues copying files to it ... and I have both the "regular" Password and the Passport for Mac models. Both can be reformatted, and I would suggest that you use HFS+ if you will only be using these for your Mac(s).
