MacBook Pro 13-inch M1 2020 speakers are crackling

Hi all new to this community so apologies in advance if this has already been brought up.

MacBook Pro 13” m1 2020

never had any issues until today when I started playing music as I regularly do but now the speakers are crackling.

do I need to bin and get a new one?

Audio glitches on Mac after update from Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo killall coreaudiod  


(note: your psswd will not echo on screen type it in anyway, use the enter\return key to proceed.)

Any external speakers/ headphones/ earpods/airpods to test and compare to the internal speakers— this would be telling(?)


In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

Are you really on Mac OS 11.6 with an M1 MacBook Pro? If so, update and see if that solves your problem.


Otherwise, if it is hardware related, that would be a trip to the Apple Store where diagnostics are performed at no cost and you would be given a repair estimate. There is nothing inherently wrong with a 2020 MacBook Pro that would indicate a problem with the speaker, but certainly a failure can happen at any time.
