Mac mini can't connect to Epson XP-4200 on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

FWIW, I have an XP-4205 which has just some very minor updates compared to the XP-4200 (mostly usability software updates).

I have an Xfinity Gateway (combo modem/router) configured with a 2.5GHz and 5GHz network access each with a unique name. This is pretty much the only change to the stock configuration other than enabling local access (otherwise the only interface to the modem is via the Xfinity app on an iPhone). I also did not change the channels that were set by the Gateway out of the box (channel selection set to automatic). Also, the router has DHCP enabled so iP addresses are set automatically.

Generally, when setting a WiFi router to have split bands it is not creating separate "networks". It is simply creating dedicated band access and removing the "auto band selection" when connecting to the router. As far as I know, consumer WiFi routers do not have the ability to create separate iP nets for 2.5GHz and 5GHz bands. Example, you can't create one band to iP net 10.0.0.x and the other to 192.168.0.x or any other allowed local iP nets. This is true of my current gateway from Xfinity as well as my venerable Apple AirPort Base Station (pizza box) and likely most all consumer routers.

I setup the XP-4205 to connect to my 2.5GHz network with AirPrint. All my Macs and iPhone are connected to the 5GHz network. I have no issue printing or accessing the scanner functions from my Macs.

You should check that the printer firmware is up to date as well as the WiFi router. Also, check the firewall security settings for your WiFi. At least on my router, there are separate security settings for both iPv4 and iPv6. Are you sure you have the XP-4200 setup for AirPrint? Also check the you have the WiFi security settings to one that is compatible with the printer. My router is set to WPA2-PSK (AES).

in some routers one needs to manually bridge 2.4Ghz/5Ghz and wired Ethernet before devices on each can communicate

how one goes about that would differ from router to router a google search for

would likely provide some guides

Information about the exact router make and model would help (please do not post any serial numbers, MAC addresses or access codes).
