Mac mini camera not working in any apps

I have a Mac mini and the camera is not working in any app including Photo Booth, FaceTime, and Zoom. I have installed Tahoe 26.5 and restarted and toggled privacy and security camera settings on and off. Help me PLEASE!

The Mac Mini does not have a camera. You will need to get a 3rd party esternal camera connected by USB C cable. There may be some out there that will work thru Bluetooth so a cable would not be needed.

I have a Mac Mini M4 and have at one time used my iPhone's camera. I've never had to use it so don't remember how to set it up. But a quick Google search should find directions.

If you are referring to an old Apple 27" display, Apple made two similar displays that people often confuse with each other.

  • The 27" Thunderbolt Display has a "hydra" cable with two heads: Thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort connector) and MagSafe.
  • The 27" LED Cinema Display has a "hydra" cable with three heads: Mini DisplayPort, USB, and MagSafe.

If by any chance you have a 27" LED Cinema Display, and not a 27" Thunderbolt Display, you must connect the USB head of the "hydra" cable if you want to have any chance of using the camera.

Attach an External Webcam:

Modern home security systems (i.e. Blink) have software that you can place on your mobile device, and view it all with ease --something that is not only useful for home security, but also for looking over your children. You'll need to meet the minimum system requirements to make it work with your device. Place one atop your screen, and it should work like a charm.

Attaching an Apple Cinema Display:

If you are looking to connect an external screen, then one to investigate is the 30" Apple Cinema Display, with a few external cables and adapters: Configuring a USB-C Only Mac with a 30-Inch Apple Cinema Display - User Tip
