I had a .pages document open on two devices (Mac and iPad). I restarted the Mac and did not relaunch Pages. I got a message on iPad that read "Document Deleted This document was deleted in another location." My 20 page document was gone, not in iCloud, not in my TimeMachine **, not on my hard drive, gone! Is there an explanation for this? I don't fell like I can trust Pages. Thank you.
When a document open across multiple devices encounters a sudden Mac restart, an iCloud sync conflict can occur. If the file was never manually saved at least once to create a permanent local or cloud anchor, or if an active editing state collided with iCloud's conflict resolution, iCloud may treat the stale or uncommitted local cache as an orphan or deletion, propagating a delete command to other active clients.

Check iCloud.com Trash: Log into iCloud.com, navigate to iCloud Drive, and check the Recently Deleted folder in the bottom right or sidebar.
Check iPad Recently Deleted: Open the Pages document manager on your iPad, tap back to browse root locations, and look for a Recently Deleted folder.
