I'll say what others have said in a different way. Do not go looking for software to install. Only install applications that you absolutely need. Every application installed on a computer (with any OS) is a security, performance, and stability liability. Therefore, only install applications that you need and are well respected. And, uninstall any application that you no longer need or use.
My second recommendation is to learn to use the native features of the macOS. For example, learn to use Finder as it is, instead of downloading some unnecessary file manager application. Learn to use Spotlight's command-spacebar before installing some unnecessary application launcher. And finally, learn about macOS security and the benefits of Private Relay before installing an unnecessary VPN. This list goes on. I encourage you to have restraint whenever someone online tries to convince you that you need any type of additional utility to replace or improve upon what macOS gives you out of the box. Want a stable, secure, and well performing Mac -- keep it clean and minimal.

If your drive is getting anywhere near 80% full and you don't want to delete anything, get yourself a plugin drive or drives.
