WhatsApp for Mac appears to be supported on macOS 12.1 and newer only.

The alternative could possibly have been WhatsApp Web. However, that seems to require an appropriate phone (iPhone or Android) as well. Furthermore, a suitable web browser is needed, and this will be an obstacle since modern browsers are not intended for OS X El Capitan 10.11.

Just as an example, the listed Firefox 115 is available in an extended support release (ESR), which still has support for macOS 10.12 Sierra to macOS 10.14 Mojave. Everything else would be experimental.

The progress of security and privacy fixes in the face of overwhelming attacks has forced both hardware and software manufacturers to abandon older versions of operating systems and hardware. WhatsApp in particular, since it is used worldwide, wants to use the latest security features offered by macOS to protect its users. Unfortunately that leaves users like yourself stranded in the past.

Firefox 78 ESR (78.15.0esr) was the final version for OS X El Capitan 10.11.
