iPhone 17 Pro not connecting to 6 GHz Wi-Fi 7 in Ukraine

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing an issue with my new iPhone 17 Pro regarding Wi-Fi 7 and 6 GHz spectrum support.

I have a fully compatible Wi-Fi 7 network environment at home, powered by a UniFi Express 7 router. The router has a dedicated SSID configured for the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands with strict WPA3 encryption and Multi-Link Operation (MLO) enabled.

While my device connects fine to the 5 GHz band, it completely ignores the 6 GHz spectrum. Consequently, MLO does not function as intended because the phone refuses to utilize the 6 GHz band at all. (it only aggregates 2.4 and 5)

Is anyone else in Ukraine or similar regions experiencing this specific limitation with the iPhone 17 series? Has anyone found a workaround, or do we just have to wait for Apple to officially update the carrier settings / iOS regulatory database for Ukraine?

Thanks for any insights!

I can confirm the same behavior for my iPhone 15 Pro, 16 Pro, and MacBook Air (M4).

Wifi hardware - Unifi Dream Router 7 (OS 5.1.12 / Network 10.4.57) + Unifi Express 7 (OS 5.1.12). 5.1.12 explicitly enabled 6Ghz in Ukraine. I can confirm it is being broadcast, and 1 non-apple device connects to it.

Troubleshooting steps already made:

  • Create a new SSID with 6Ghz only - Apple devices do not see it
  • Deleted the current wifi (w. enabled 6Ghz) from all devices and re-added it - Devices stay at 5Ghz
  • Change country on touter to UK + Disabled location services on an iPhone w. reboot - iPhone sees the network and is able to connect (so no hardware issues present)
  • MLO is currently disabled as only iPhone 16 Pro supports it from my devices.

Before you ask, I have direct visibility to the AP (it is 1.5m from the iPhone).

Your device may ignore the 6 GHz band because it either does not support Wi-Fi 6E/7 hardware, the router settings or drivers are outdated, or regional regulatory restrictions are limiting 6 GHz operation. In India, support for the 6 GHz Wi-Fi spectrum is still limited and evolving, so even if your router supports it, some phones and laptops may disable or restrict 6 GHz connectivity depending on firmware, region settings, and local regulations.

Country/region restrictions

  • 6 GHz availability depends on regional regulations.
  • If the router region and device region don’t match, 6 GHz may stay disabled.

Standard Wi-Fi 6 devices still use only 2.4/5 GHz.

ChatGPT says:

  • Wi-Fi 7 devices can absolutely be sold and used in Ukraine
  • 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz work normally
  • 6 GHz support is newer and still depends on:
    • router firmware,
    • device firmware,
    • regulatory database updates,
    • and manufacturer support

Some routers and devices initially disabled 6 GHz when the country was set to Ukraine, even though the hardware supported it. Vendors later started enabling support through firmware updates.
