Issue with Logitech MX Keys Mini for Mac and a Macbook pro

I purchased a Logitech MX Keys Mini for Mac, (german keyboard, german mac) and it pairs but a number of the keys are not synced and the special features do not work. Any ideas how to fix it? I have tried pairing it several times.

Your keyboard seems to be for Switzerland instead of Germany or Austria.

Go to system settings / keyboard / text input / edit / all input sources and use the plus button at the bottom to add the input source called Swiss German and use the minus button to remove all the other items.

That is a symptom of the problem and making a long list is not the cause. The cause is that my German MacBook pro does not recognize the Logitech keyboard. According to Logitech, the drivers for their keyboards is built into the keyboard and is transferred to the laptop so that when one starts typing on the Logitech keyboard, the Macbook recognizes the device. That is not happening here.

here is a partial list: the key to the left of 1 shows up as ^ instead of the German symbol for paragraph; shift 1 shows up as ! instead of +; shift 3 shows up as § instead of *; shift 4 shows up as $ instead of ç; the key to the right of the zero key shows up as ß instead of ´; and the key below it to the right of the return key shows up as + instead of .. more later if I can find the time.
