I keep getting big blank spaces in various apps like Mail. When I scroll the screen the blank space stays parked over a big portion of my screen. This just started happening in iOS 26.5. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Try Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings.
Check Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom. Set it to “Default”.

Fixing Zooming:
This seems to all comes down to being a zooming issue. In addition to what sbermon said, see what occurs when you while tow fingers together on the screen. It may zoom out. If this is a screenshot, then this would most certian fix this.
I have exactly the same thing on my 13 mini. If I swipe the mail app to dismiss it, the blank space goes away for a while, but later comes back. I see it in the Reddit app as well.
I checked. My Display Zoom is already set to default.
The picture is a screen shot of mail. If you look closely, the bit blank area has search at the bottom of it. My email list perks out at the bottom- below the search box. If I scroll, emails disappear behind the blank box and reappear after the search box.
I appreciate your help. I don’t know what else to change.

By "screenshot", I am asking if it is a screenshot that you are zooming in on --not what you have provided with your thread(a screenshot).
Thank you for the suggestion. I decided to wait and see if the next update fixes my phone. I don’t want to erase all my customizations and data like credit cards, location, WiFi etc.
The blank space is annoying, but not deadly.

I’m also experiencing this issue on my iPhone 16. It happens in a number of apps, including Mail, Reddit, Threads, Facebook, etc. I was hoping the latest update (to 26.6) would address the issue, but it’s still there.
Closing and reopening the app solves the problem only temporarily - eventually, it starts happening again.
I should add that in some cases I can make the blank space disappear by opening a search window in the app. For example in Mail, if I tap the search bar at the bottom and then just close it again, the blank space disappears.

No, it is an email inbox - the new version that sorts, categories. It happens in all boxes and when email is a list. It also happens in other apps that I scroll through a list of items.
This may not be happening in all categories. You have selected Promotions as a category that I can see from your post. Some promotional emails do not contain multiple lines. See the pic below

It still happens to me too, but not as often. I have a hard time explaining the issue. Sorry it’s happening to you, but also glad to know I’m not alone.
I have the same problem. Not every time I use the mail app, but more often than not. Really frustrating.
