Apple TV app not playing content on Roku Express

I have Roku Express 3910RW Hooked up to my main TV. I can’t get Apple TV

app to play anything. I get the menus but when I try to play all I get is

spinning circle. I have reset my wi fi router, unplugged and plugged back in

the Roku unit, restarted the Roku, checked for software updates and deleted and

reinstalled the Apple TV app. What’s going on? All the other apps I have tried

yesterday and today have worked fine. Apple TV works fine on the Roku Ultra

i have hooked up to another TV. I don’t want to switch to another Roku on this

TV if I don’t have to because I only have 2 HDMI ports which are used by cable box

and Blu-ray player while Roku Express uses red/white/yellow AV cable.

Are these other Rokus that do work on the same home network (through the same router)?

  1. Verify that your router doesn’t block Apple’s servers (or its CDN) through a firewall setting.
  2. Verify that your router doesn’t block ports that Apple services like to use.
  3. Verify that you use a good DNS on your router, like the one from your ISP, which gets updated with all server names that Apple might use.

One more thing to try:

  1. Verify that your Roku has the correct date and time and timezone, as Apple may be more strict about that (TLS) than other content providers.

Else I would suggest to contact an expert from the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (fill in “Tell us what’s happening”, then choose from chat/email/callback).

Another user (mygreensocks) suggested this procedure from Roku Support staff, which reportedly helped several users.

  1. Remove the Apple TV app,
  2. Shut off and unplug the streaming device,
  3. Wait 30 seconds,
  4. Plug the streaming device back in,
  5. Reload the Apple TV app.

Else try the Network Connection Reset, as mentioned by user Jarieta.

  1. Roku: Home﹥Settings﹥System﹥Advanced System Settings﹥Network Connection Reset

Be aware that composite video (yellow cable) is analog and standard definition (SD, 480i). HDMI will give you better quality picture (1080p) and sound.

Have you tried if HDMI makes the 3910 behave better on this TV?
