Having Just Installed an Update, it may be a corrupt install. So, a few things there.
A. Boot Using a Different Port:
Shunt down your Mac. Then, unplug the drive. Then, plug it into anther port. Finally, boot up once more, seeing if there is no more issue.
B. Single-Out this User:
For troubleshooting purposes, try a new Administrator user, seeing if you do not get this occur while in it. If so, then it is an issue with the configuration of the current user. If not, then it is an issue with the entire Mac, in which case you should reinstall the macOS. See below...
C. Reinstall the macOS:
Nothing would be deleted. It's just that items that have become corrupted or deleted, would be replaced or reinstalled back to where they should be. Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support. Important: Be certain to create a backup of your Mac prior to performing the reinstall. That way, you can have something to restore from the Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Once reinstalled, try this once more, seeing if you still get this error.

The apps involved are protected against most modification, absent storage hardware corruptions.
Without a spare SuperDrive to test, please post an inventory; please download and run EtreCheck (the free version, don’t need the paid version here), and share the results to the clipboard. Then open a new reply here, and press the Additional Text button that looks like a printed page, and paste and post the hardware and software configuration report here. From that, we can get a little more detail about what is installed and what is running here.
There are some bits that could be cleaned up, but those are unrelated to this report and to SuperDrive.
I’ll assume the Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter was used (as that has sufficient power) and nothing there has changed from the previous working configuration — other than macOS 26.5.
You’ll want to check with Apple Support: Contact Apple Support - Apple Support
Does a different SuperDrive have the same behavior? (I’d expect to see more about SuperDrive issues with 26.5 discussed around here, if there were a general problem.)
If I had a spare drive to swap out my 2 year old Apple purchased drive I would do that.
To be clear, the Apple Superdrive worked prior to the Software Upgrade I didn't need other than to make certain my machine was as secure as Apple could provide...
Is there a way to reload the application that manages the Superdrive?

MrHoffman, correct, my machine is pretty light duty, I rarely physically touch it, other than to reboot every 7 to 10 days, or plug my iPhone into a dangelling cord... nothing has changed for months.
The last change prior to 26.5 was an Upgrade to Numbers I believe.
What do you see that I could clean up.
Thanks

Seems my November 2023 SuperDrive was the culprit.
Thanks to those that chipped in to help out.
