24-hour single-hand analog watch face for Apple Watch

I bought a Svalbard watch for about $100; it is gorgeous, but I find the numerals to be smaller than expected and difficult to read (old eyes). And, of course, no possibility of customizing. See ‘1handclock’ iOS in AppStore for another example.

I’ve never seen a face set up like that. Pretty sure Apple doesn’t have one (nor is likely to make one). You can the app store. It’s possible I suppose.

There are 3rd party apps which offer a broader collection. But I never installed any other Watch faces on my Apple Watch than the default ones, just to be sure, that these 3rd party apps do not interfere with watchOS.

I confess, your post intrigued me. If that watch face were available, I would use it. Please follow the advice offered here and send this feedback to Apple. I will do the same.

In the mean time, the only watch face I was able to find that offered a 24 hour clock is World Time. It is cluttered with more information than you need but it is what it is.

While not a “watch” you sound like might find this iOS app interesting and/or useful.

I’ve found it’s Sunrise, Sunset, and Local Solar Noon to be “spot-in” in various locales around the globe. (Unfortunately, the 3x twilight times are not a feature)

This is a screenshot of iOS app 1handClock. The AM/PM area provides a glimpse of what it might look like with a dynamic Dawn/Dusk indicator.

I will attempt to contact the developer and direct them to this thread - maybe provide some motivation. One task would be to add the dawn/dusk complication. The next would be to export to Apple Watch. I’d do it myself if I had the skills.

It’s hard to say what the market might be. I agree, probably not huge. OTOH, no one’s ever seen it before, and it is so intuitively informative it might be more popular than expected.

I would buy an Apple Watch if I could install this face. With either 3 markers (15 min) or 5 markers (10 min) it can be read accurately to within about 2 min. Added complication - with shading, the margin could identify real-time sunrise and sunset (civil, nautical, or astronomical) consistent with time of day, latitude, and season, also (intuitively) clarifying noon and midnight.

I’m aware of various apps that provide sunrise and sunset in digital format, but thank you. That’s not what I’m describing. First, a single-handed 24-hour analog watch provides an immediate visual display of how time is elapsing over a full 24 hours. Then the next day you see the next 24 hours. There is no 12-hr gap in the display between AM and PM.

Adding an overlapping band on this same visual display would indicate local dawn and dusk at a glance. Any choice of civil, nautical, or astronomical would be fine, although once the underlying logic is in place it would be trivial to allow the user to select their desired preference. Again, it would provide immediate, intuitive, visual information at a glance, consistent with local conditions. This would be helpful for yard work, driving after dark, etc. “How much time do I have left to mow the lawn?”, I.e., how wide is the gap between the current time and dusk? I specifically don’t want to open a separate app, read the information in digital format, and do the math in my head.

An optional overlay of digital time, day, and date in the center might be helpful, although it would add clutter to an otherwise elegantly simply and intuitive display.

I’d be interested in further comments from others to keep the discussion going. Maybe someone will take on the task and make this available. An iOS or MacOS app with these features would be a significant step forward, although not as convenient as a glance of the wrist.

I’d use it. Anyone whose ability to work outside effectively starts at Civil Twilight would too.

It might even help more folks understand the 3-phases of twilight. 🤞

And FWIW, I’m firmly in the “Year-Round Standard Time” camp.

The Sun IMO should be at or near it’s highest point at about Local Noon.

You might have better luck shopping for a more “standard” 24-hour face.

There is certainly an audience, although I can’t say how large.
