I have an iPhone 17 with new software but cannot find how to use the Welsh language for my calendar and other apps on the iPhone. I used to be able to use Welsh which is my preferred language.

Have you gone to settings > general > language and region and tried putting Welsh at the top of the preferred languages list? Also for any app, go to its own settings and see if there is a setting for preferred language and see if Welsh is on the list.
Apple apps themselves do not have Welsh localization support (except possibly the Lock Screen), but some other apps may have it.

Apple currently provides only threadbare support for Welsh.
The company presents its products as essential tools for classrooms and workplaces, yet fails to acknowledge that many of us learn and work through Welsh and other minority languages.
Siri does not understand Welsh, so we have to address it in English. Welsh-language content is less likely to be surfaced or recommended, making it harder to find and gradually less visible within everyday digital life.
What makes the situation especially frustrating is that much of the groundwork has already been done. Volunteers, universities and organisations have spent thousands of hours developing Welsh terminology, translation resources and speech-recognition models. Many of these are open source, adaptable and available… we’re just waiting for Apple to care.
