iPhone blocked contacts limit: alternative spam blocking?

iPhone blocked contacts caps at 3000, I’m on iOS 26.5, on iPhone 16 plus. I can’t add more contacts to block. Is there a better way to block spam emails and callers?

Blocking by number is approximately useless, as most spammers use different (spoofed) “calling” numbers.

Back when I was trying that method, had one spam caller and added the numbers onto that contact. That contact had a special ringtone (silence), and no haptics. (But again, it doesn’t work well.)

With iOS 26, I use call screening and muting, and the spammers haven’t yet bypassed that:

As for spam texts, I use the app Bouncer, which runs locally, and allows regular expressions, which means political and survey spam texts are muted.

Is there a quicker way to delete old blocked contacts without doing them individually? Also, I think a 3000 limit isn’t enough with all the scam calls everyone’s getting these days. Maybe phone providers and networks should do more to stop these scam calls before they even get to come through on our phones. I don’t even bother answering my phone anymore, as 90% of the time they’re scammers. More really needs to be done about this!

I don't know the answer to how many contacts can be blocked. Apple hasn't published it and we are ALL users on this user to user only forum.

But I can tell you blocking Spam calls is a wasted effort. The number you are blocking is rarely, if ever the actual number calling you. These spammers "spoof" their numbers and almost never use the same number to call anyone. Thus blocking them is not going to help you.

Things you should be doing:

  1. Use the call screening features, which were introduced in iOS 26 --> Screen and block calls on iPhone - Apple Support
  2. See what tools your carrier may offer to help screen and block spam callers. My carrier is AT&T and they offer Active Armor.
  3. Stop blocking spam callers. It's completely inefective at best.

Blocking email addresses is usually ineffective because spammers constantly change addresses.

A better strategy is:

  • Use your mail provider’s spam/junk filtering.
  • Mark unwanted emails as Junk instead of blocking individual senders.
  • Create mail rules if you repeatedly receive similar spam.
  • Manage unknown callers on iPhone

Filter unknown and spam calls · Go to the Settings app on your iPhone. · Tap Apps, then tap Phone. · Turn on the following: Unknown Callers: Calls from unknown ...Read more
