iPad not syncing texts/calls, iPhone passcode unresponsive

My iPad stopped allowing me to see my texts and calls etc from my iPhone and I’m trying to fix it and the passcode message keeps popping up for my iPhone; but it won’t let me type it in! Am I doing something wrong?! I’m not understanding.

You are experiencing a temporary software glitch where your devices lost their secure connection, causing the passcode prompt to freeze.

Restart both devices: Turn your iPhone and iPad completely off and back on again.
Force restart your iPhone: If the screen still does not respond to your touch, quickly press and release the Volume Up button, quickly press and release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Side (power) button until you see the Apple logo.
Dismiss the prompt: If the box lets you cancel or close it, do so, then move closer to your other devices.
