How to troubleshoot a MacBook Pro that suddenly died with no peripherals plugged in?

MacBook Pro suddenly died. One minute it’s working fine, then the screen went black, total shutdown.

it had no peripherals plugged in. It did have the power chord attached.

if I unplug, then reconnect the power socket, it doesn’t make the welcoming ‘ping’ sound to acknowledge the connection.

It’s 100% dead.

….any ideas?

Very glad to report that it was simply an issue with the power adapter being faulty. It appears that the battery was exhausted after all. And the power adapter wasn't properly charging. Borrowed a friends power adapter, and listened to the welcoming 'ping' noise - as the amperes were transferring into the NiCad battery...
