Subtitles turn off mid-show even when settings are enabled

subtitles are not working. sometimes they do, then turn off mid-show, even though the settings show that they are on

On what device with the Apple TV app is this happening?
Does this happen for Apple TV subscription content?
Does this happen for Apple Media Store content (buy/rent titles)?
Does this happen for perhaps other content?

on my television. I have a Fire Stick, but this new TV now has Xumo built in and it has overridden the Fire Stick and now I navigate to the AppleTV+ app subscription content through the Xumo interface. IDK if Xumo is the issue.

I dont have this problem with any of my other streaming services.

if you have a smart tv which wish to control your media interface but you wish to use your fire stick then you should use your smart tv's remote to choose the hdmi port the fire stick is connected to as the active input source

that should bypass all smart tv related interfaces
