iPhone cannot AirDrop to MacBook Pro

Iphone will not airdrop to macbook. Iphone 16, current OS. Macbook Pro, Apple M1 chip. Tahoe current OS.


Iphone fails to airdrop TO my macbook, but I can airdrop the other direction, macbook to iphone.. Also, I can airdrop from my iphone to my mac Studio. Every device is on the same WIFI network and bluetooth is on on all.

iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 26

  • Go to  > System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff > AirDrop, and temporarily change it to Everyone. If it works there then it may be an issue with the Contact information in the Contacts app for the sending device.
  • Also if you have a VPN/Antivirus installed on the Mac, that may be interfering with network connections for receiving an AirDrop. Those types of network problems with a VPN/Antivirus are addressed here:

Airdrop can be finicky yes...


shut down all device and restart, modem, router, Mac, iPhone and compare your results

Ok.... so you have some functionality.


Airdrop can still be finicky, nothing changed there— wait a week and try again your problem iPhone and report back


if you can't stand to wait— you can try manually clearing some System caches to sort anomlies

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support, then reboot as normal.
