There are four date options in Finder - right click the title bar and you'll see Date Added, Date Created, Date Modified and Date Last Opened.

i had to use migration assistant as the Mac refused to recognise my Samsung T7 which held a lot of my back ups.

You would hope so— Date modified’, ‘Date Created’ and ‘Date Added’ would be preserved...
Typically Mac to Mac I never had an issue using Migration Assistant—Time Machine preserves your Date Created and Date Modified timestamps when moving data to a new machine

Not sure what is " Samsung T7".... an external backup(?) formatted how?
Was this from a Windows machine to Mac...?

I suspect you can erase the machine and try again
