Missing Desktop Files After Enabling iCloud Desktop & Documents

Dears,

After I enabled the Desktop & Documents Folders setting on my MacBook Pro, all of the files that were on my desktop disappeared. Instead, my desktop was replaced with files from iCloud that belonged to a MacBook Air I used about six years ago.

How can I recover the desktop files from my MacBook Pro? They are very important, and I need them back as soon as possible.

Could you please help me restore my original desktop files?
