im in a group chat where it does not let me type out messages so i cant respond and on the top it says “encrypted” with a lock sign. how can i fix this so i can type in the group chat

The Encrypted label with the lock usually isn’t the problem. It just means that conversation is encrypted.
I’d try closing Messages and restarting the iPhone first.
Then check Settings > Messages and make sure iMessage is on. If it’s a group with non-iPhone users, also check that MMS Messaging and Group Messaging are on, if those options appear.
If the text box is still missing only in that one group, ask someone in the group to start a new chat or add you again.

What if this only happens on ONE iPad Pro, in particular (I have 2, a regular iPad & an iPhone which share the same iCloud account, but it only happens on that one device). I tried all of the above & it makes no difference. It didn’t even offer an option of MMS or group text either. At least in settings. If someone can suggest what to try next when nothing else works, I am open to suggestions!!
