iOS 26.5 contacts, Messages, call- COMPLETELY NONFUNCTIONAL after setting up iPhone 14 Pro Max, now affecting iPad too

I’m having a serious issue with my contacts, Messages, and phone calls after setting up my iPhone 14 Pro Max. It has now started affecting my iPad too. This is urgent as it is interfering with normal use of my phone and other Apple devices.

After I set up a "new" iPhone 14 Pro Max, both of my phones on 26.5, iPhone 15 Pro Max + iPhone 14 Pro Max, my contacts have been broken, and the problem is showing up in multiple places, including Messages, phone calls, and contact information. It is not limited to one contact or one conversation. It affects all related services, and it seems like the problem is spreading or syncing across devices, because now my iPad and mac is affected as well.

The problem is it completely removes the functionality of messages, contacts, and calls. It spread to all of my Apple devices. I am not able to even read my text, call anybody from any of my three phone numbers or read my contacts. This is affecting my normal day-to-day life. Whenever I open any of these services, it'll crash. I'll get a white screen and it'll crash. If I force reset, briefly when I come back online, it'll show me previews of some of the text messages. But but I'm not able to read or access any of them.

We have already tried going through Apple Support, but we did not get a useful response or resolution. They escalated me to senior engineer and they gave me no useful information. They told me my system diagnostics on both phones came back with quote unquote flying colors.

I factory reset my iPhone twice. Did the force restart starting from 0 and nothing is working. My phone, iPad are unusable for the most essential functions like calling, texting, looking at my contacts. Contacts are somehow still available on iCloud Web though. Yes, I've also tried restoring from a backup. Did not work.

Very, very frustrating how none of the most basic and essential phone functions are working. I am in a situation right now where I am buying housing, vehicles, and other important transactions, whenever I try to use or set up a new phone it bricks it.. I've had to borrow my acquaintance's phone to call Apple support and to no avail. This is very bad and it's been happening now for three days. I have reset sim settings. I've tried setting up with no sim and yes, at the end of the day, none of my three phone numbers are usable. I need a resolution.

As users we can’t route anything to an engineer, and which engineer out of the thousands working on iOS. The forum hosts to not have access to engineering.

As has been suggested, use the Support link, and whoever you communicate with can escalate your issue. But it still isn’t clear what the issue is; you describe your diagnosis, not the actual problem.

Perhaps a long shot, not yet discussed:

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN, then restart your device. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. Updates sometimes "break" VPN, and it needs to be removed. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN, but probably shouldn't.

This is still broken. Apple support calls keep dropping. The new twenty six version still has the same issue. I can't even have a conversation about the support because For some reason the cost just dropped after 20 or so minutes. Just left in the dark here. Apple, please get into contact with me. Because Not a single support option has worked. Neither has going to the store. I at the end of the day still cannot receive text messages... And I have to use a very unusual workaround to even get the limited amount of phone functionality I have access to. It's so ridiculous. And it happened when I added a new device.

I have access to some things but because of the issue I cant back up info like messages history even on web. Not able to see some contacts, see the texts ive recieved, receive codes, or do normal things on this account. It is completely nonfunctional and as such I have currently no access to even backup some important info. I am still paying for premium icloud. Sorry if this is unclear at this point, ive already said everything and am just insanely annoyed at how much of a deal this has been.

In short cant do these aforementioned functions on my icloud account. Cant back up certain things because of this issue. Lost time and money. Apple fixes are not working. Apple support irl says "wow this is a weird one." Big deal to hand transfer everything to a new icloud account. Have had escalated ticket already for over a month. Submitted feedback. They just do not care that its serious because it only affects a small amount of people, and will not respond in substance to any of my outreach. The update is always "keep your devices updated."

You still haven't bothered to actually describe what's wrong in a coherent way.

Telling us you can't do things is pointless unless you actually describe what you're doing and what happens when you try.

The steps you've taken to troubleshoot would also be helpful.

If you want to talk to someone at Apple use the Support link at the top of the pager or make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store.

I only said that was one of several potential causes. For one, it was working perfectly fine for months before. Your assumption is unfounded. In reality it happened directly after I connected a second phone to my icloud. Two, OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE. It is not just me. You are undermining a serious issue because you have no idea how to deal with it, what caused it, and are generally operating under false assumptions. The issue is extremely serious and the apple response has been not helpful at all. That is a company failure no matter how you pin it.. that essential services are not accessible and my feedback is being all but ignored, and I cannot back up important info.

admittedly prob few.. but this is missing the issue. Now I just want to back everything up and sell. Im inherently taking time away from the community, apple support staff.. Theres nothing I know how to do that I have not done, and its come to the point where even the community just wants it to go away because its rare and doesnt affect them. I just got fricked! If I switch back to a new acc, one I cannot go and back up my info, and if the issue is rare, it might just come back to me.

I have 0 indication there has been ANY progress. So im just a one off casualty in the sea of apple users... This comment will probably be deleted but the issue is still here and very unfortunate. I am willing to share any logs, any amount of troubleshooting, any communications, but ultimately nobody from apple has taken the responsibility.

Bumping. I'm not going to engage in discussion because I've said pretty much everything already but the issue is still a bother and I'm not able to export critical information. The issue has been acknowledged, it is not just me, it is still happening months after this started.

Sending SOS to any relevant Apple engineer that can help. Again yes I've done everything. I've gone to the store. I've had support calls. I've done every single fix in this entire thread.

If you don't want to engage in discussion, why are you bumping this? Do you understand that Apple employees don't participate in the discussions and that Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions? If you're expecting Apple to acknowlege you, that's not going to happen here.

I have literally no other option, other than posting and using all channels as much as I can. Ive tried apple support countless times. Yes if something new comes up will certainly look into but people just berate me and tell me everything is my fault in this thread and have gone nowhere.

Ive left feedback many times and havent got any reply.

I have to go through the same cycle every time, escalate to support senior, get them to tell me they are aware, no updates, "keep your devices updated 💀" and then get them to send me a broken support link that has many menus and in the end does not let me even continue. Post on forum, feedback, reddit, email. Nothing changes. Start over.

No other option for what? What do you expect bumping the thread to accomplish?

No one is berating you. Not knowing how something works is not a "fault." Its a learning experience. Fault comes in refusing to do the learning part.

Ive left feedback many times and havent got any reply.

No, you won't.

Sure they might not respond but if a company gets a lot of attention for something that severely impacts customer experience they are usually obliged to respond to it. Thats how politics work in general.

Yeah from a functional standpoint my apple devices are still broken and theres nothing I can do to get some of my corrupted info. I have started reaching out to journalists as well. It prob wont go anywhere but really my options are quite limited and I want it to be fixed. Still open to suggestions
