iPad Touch to Speak not highlighting text

Hello, I’m making this post because I’m having issues with the Read & Speak functions on my iPad.

For some reason despite having speak screen on and highlighting words and sentences enabled, when I do touch to speak on text I do not have highlighting pop up for me.

As somebody with adhd this is very important for me to have working.
