Hi mapsguy1955,

Re: "Cannot delete audio from iMovie clip in timeline"

Thank you for your post to the community, and for letting us know what you have already tried.

It's not easy to guess what hardware and OS software you are using ... a few thoughts for Mac or iPhone below

You may want to check whether the clip has separate audio and video files.as is often the case.

Eg: If you are using a Mac for iMovie

One simple way: if convenient:

Delete the clip, and only import the clip's video (images) file, and not the accompanying audio fie.

Else: If you want to retain the clip,(eg: having worked on it already):

you could try removing the clip's audio file from the source you imported it from,

(or, if need be, replacing the audio file with a silent, or music file, named with the same filename.)

:

See: Locate source files for clips in iMovie on Mac - Apple Support

If you are using an iPhone for iMovie:

See how to: Edit audio clips in iMovie on iPhone - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"You can detach the audio from a video clip in a movie project so that you can remove the audio or edit it as a separate clip.

  1. In the iMovie app  on your iPhone, open a movie project.
  2. Tap a video clip in the timeline to reveal the inspector at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap the Actions button , then tap Detach.

A new blue-colored audio clip appears beneath the video clip.

You can now move, delete, or edit the audio clip separately from its parent video clip."

All the best :-)
