Yes, clarification please. The only thing on a SuperDrive that even looks like an “appendage” is the power/data cable. I do not know how to “edit” a cable.
Also tell us what Apple device you wish to use with the SuperDrive. The SuperDrive has not been updated or changed for 14 years and may not be happy with newer Apple devices.
Remember, we are not Apple but other end users like you. We can neither see nor remotely access your devices, so we rely 100% on your good description of the problem and equipment. Please help us help you.
Since you wrote that you can't add files to that "cd," I assume that you're using CD-R media. What you want to do is burn a multi-session disc. Third-party software like Roxio's "Toast" or "Burn" (free download) are 2 programs that provide more user settings, so that your disc isn't automatically closed when finished burning a session. The type of media is also a determining factor for multi-session burns, as burnable DVDs don't support this. CD-RW, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW media are intended for complete re-burning of the disc, not for multi-session recordings.
Did the SuperDrive previously work with the brand/type of disk you have? If so, and it does not work know, the SuperDrive could simple be dirty. A drive-cleaning disk may help there.
care to clarify?
I’m using an iMac and when I burn files to the SuperDrive the cd becomes read only and I can’t add anymore files to that cd
