HomePod 2nd Gen randomly plays Apple Music at night
Title: HomePod 2nd Gen randomly starts playing Apple Music at night with no user input
Hi everyone,
I’m using a HomePod 2nd generation together with an Apple TV. Recently, my HomePod suddenly started playing Apple Music by itself, even though nobody touched anything or gave any command.
The most concerning case happened at night while I was sleeping. Music suddenly started playing from the HomePod and woke me up. It was quite alarming, and now I’m worried it might happen again.
My setup:
- HomePod 2nd generation
- Apple TV
- HomePod was previously used as the Apple TV audio output
- No Home app automation related to music
- Speaker access permission has already been changed
- Siri listening on the HomePod has been turned off
- Apple TV audio output has now been changed back to the TV speakers
The issue is that Apple Music starts playing on the HomePod without any obvious user action.
I would like to know:
- Has anyone experienced a similar issue with HomePod 2nd gen and Apple TV?
- Could this be related to Apple TV, AirPlay, Handoff, HDMI-CEC, ARC/eARC, or an Apple Music playback queue?
- Is there any way to check which device or command triggered the playback?
- Could this be caused by a HomePod touch surface issue or a software bug?
- What settings should I check to prevent this from happening again?
For now, I have turned off Siri listening and changed the Apple TV audio output to the TV speakers, but I’m still concerned because the music started unexpectedly while I was asleep.
Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
